It is possible to combine several areas.
Laser hair removal is based on the principle of converting laser beams into heat to destroy the hair follicles. At approx. At 60 degrees, the protein in the hair cells and the hair follicle is destroyed. The hair follicle is then permanently damaged, and the hair cannot grow back.
It is the melanin (black, brown and red color pigments) in the hair that absorbs the laser beams so that they are converted into heat. This means that the amount of melanin found in the hair affects how much energy is absorbed and converted into heat. Thick and dark strands of hair are better suited to absorb the laser beams than thin and light ones. Thick and dark hair has a lot of melanin, while thin and light hair has little. Red and blonde hair has little pigment in the hair follicles and can therefore be very difficult or impossible to treat.
Gray and white hair cannot be treated with lasers as they lack melanin. Without melanin, the energy from the laser beams will not be converted into heat. Without heat, the hair follicle is not destroyed.
Several treatments are always necessary
The reason why several treatments are always necessary is due to the different growth phases of the hair. The hair follicle has three different growth phases: anagen, catagen and telogen. Hair grows all the time in different cycles, i.e. we always have hair that is in different cycles. When hair is in the anagen growth phase, it contains the most melanin. Slightly simplified, we can say that hair in the active phase has a lot of melanin, and hair in the inactive phase has little melanin. The more melanin, the greater the hair's ability to absorb the laser beams and convert them into heat.
The proportion of hair in the growth phase varies from body part to body part. On average, we can say that approx. 20 - 30% of the hair is in the anagen growth phase. Several treatments are necessary because we have to wait for hair in the resting phase to transition to the growth phase so that melanin production is the greatest possible.
How many treatments are needed to become hairless?
How many treatments are required to achieve the desired result will always vary from person to person, for example the color of the hair of the person to be treated and how much hair is in the active growth phase. Most common are 5-8 treatments.
Dark skin types have more pigment (melanin) than light skin types. Patients with dark skin type must therefore complete a consultation appointment (patch test) to be sure that the treatment can be carried out without the risk of burns or discolouration of the skin. ?
Came completely freshly shaved
If you have a special and exceptional need for assistance with shaving (e.g. the last remnants of your back that you cannot get to on your own), let us know when booking the appointment.
You should have avoided active sunbathing and self-tanning in the last 2 weeks before the class. In addition, a minimum of 6 months should have passed since the end of treatment with isotretinoin.
Avoid plucking, waxing or epilating the hairs 4 weeks before treatment. If you only shave the area, we make sure to have as many normal hair follicles as possible before the treatment is carried out.
Avoid creams that may irritate the skin in the last week before treatment. Unfortunately, pregnant and breastfeeding women are not treated. This also applies to people with outbreaks of herpes, infected, sun-damaged or sunburned skin.
Risks and side effects
After the treatment, it is normal for the skin to feel warm and red. Swelling around the hair follicles is to be expected. Common side effects include discomfort, pain and transient redness. Risks and side effects are associated with the thickness of the hairs, the amount of melanin, and the amount of hair in the same hair follicle. The darker, thicker and denser your hair, the warmer the treatment area will be.
Rare side effects such as bruising, abrasions, burns and peeling of the skin and infection may occur. The same applies to pigment differences, which normally disappear by themselves within a short time. In rare cases, the pigment change can be long-lasting.
Patients with darker skin types have a higher risk of complications such as hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, abrasions, scarring and other variable results. As mentioned above, this is due to the fact that they have more melanin than light skin types. To reduce the risk of mistakes and burns, a patch test must be carried out.
In very rare cases, eye damage can occur even with protective glasses.
